Members enjoyed a new Christmas Party option this year, switching from "beer and skittles" to the rather more hi-tech Ten Pin variety at the Megabowl in Maidenhead. As with our photography, we welcomed beginners and experienced bowlers, as the diverity of scores testified! A good time was had by all, both at the lanes and in the bar afterwards.

As last year, the WPS has produced its own Christmas card, which has been sent to all speakers and judges that have either already visited us since September, or will do so during the remainder of the club year to June 2007. This is just an additional small 'thank you' from the club for the valuable time they give up to come and talk to us, and helps to ensure continuing good relations with them all.
The card design is the mural that we produced for the Windsor Fringe Festival in September, comprising works contributed by members which were skilfully put together as a three-dimensional display by member Derek Reay (see item below). The image was printed, and the cards created, by member Paul Mitchell (our thanks to you, Paul).

| The Windsor Photographic Society's contribution to the Windsor Fringe Festival is now firmly established. This year we have based our 3.3m wide display on a cartoon showing the activities of some of our members at a typical club evening. Lots of activity, lots of fun, and hopefully bringing a smile to the faces of those who stop to look. |

The display is in the waiting room of the Medical Practice in Sheet Street, Windsor, where we hope it will remain until this time next year. The display was designed by Derek Reay and drawn by his daughter Christina. The photographs were taken by club members and sponsored by Snappy Snaps of Windsor.

NEW FROM SEPTEMBER 2005: All print and slide entries that score 18 points or over, but are not a winner or placed, can receive a new WPS 'Highly Commended' sticker. Any member wishing to receive one of these should ask the Competition Secretary after the competition, who will check entitlement before issue.

A group of 13 members led by Chairman Micki Aston took part in a B/W tuition session in Burnham Beeches. The focus of the s
ession was 'Seeing in Black and White'. After spending several hours in The Beeches, photographing the various sights, including some of the oldest trees in Britain, the group dispersed agreeing that the tutorial had indeed helped them to isolate shape, form and texture in a scene. Since it was so well received, the club will be organising more tutorials in this vein during the coming season.Photo © Doug Harding |

The CACC Rose Bowl finals were held last Sunday - and sadly Windsor didn't do as well as we'd hoped. Amersham won with 143 points, and we came 8th equal, with 121 points.
Our slides were scored as follows:

Lauren Poussard, our External Competition Secretary, has given us this report on the third round of the CACC Rose Bowl competition ...
"We came in THIRD place on Tuesday night [8 February]. We were competing against Harrow C.C., Kodak Works P.S. and Chesham C.C. The competition was really between Chesham and ourselves all night, as we passed each other back and forth with every image... in the end they edged past by just ONE.

Round Two of the 'CACC Rose Bowl' competition was held on Monday 17th January, hosted by ourselves. Participating in Round Two were Windsor P.S., Chalfont & Gerrards Cross C.C., and Park Street C.C. Maidenhead C.C. were scheduled to compete, but withdrew.
Each club was allowed 15 slides, for a total of 45 on the night, ably judged by Stan McCartin. After a keenly fought battle, in which the tension was maintained with several slides held back, Windsor came out on top! The two slides of the evening that were awarded 20 points were both from Windsor - Micki Aston's "Zodiacs crossing", and Lauren Poussard's "Apple of my eye". The competition rules allow just two of the top scorers to receive a 'star' rating - and these went naturally to the two Windsor entries! We now go through to the third round, against tough opposition from Kodak Works, Chesham and Harrow in Febuary (date as yet unkown).
